Peristiwa tersebut dipicu perasaan cemburu pelaku terhadap korban, yang keduanya tinggal sekampung di Desa Klitik, Kecamatan Geneng. Meski sudah berkeluarga, pelaku, Lani (53 tahun), diam diam menjalin ‘asmara pintu belakang’ dengan janda bernama Darmiyati (51 tahun).
Berbagai sumber di lapangan, kepada jurnalis menuturkan, warga setempat sudah mendengar hubungan cinta keduanya. Hubungan keduanya belum terlalu lama, namun karena bertetangga warga setempat pun tetap mengetahui gelagat tersebut.
Namun, rupanya pelaku menaruh cemburu kepada korban yang juga menjalin asmara dengan pria lainnya lagi. Disitulah awal petaka itu dimulai, berakibat korban mengalami beberapa luka bacok di tubuhnya. Sedangkan pelaku melarikan diri, sekaligus bunuh diri menenggak racun pembasmi rumput.
Sebelumnya, pelaku yang sudah kalap mencari korban untuk diajak berembug. Korban yang tengah duduk di teras rumah tetangganya, enggan diajak keluar pelaku.
Lantaran kehabisan akal, pelaku langsung memainkan parang yang sudah dibawanya secara membabi buta. Kedua lengan korban penuh luka, bahkan beberapa jari tangannya terputus.
Melihat itu pelaku panik. Dia langsung tancap gas dengan motor bernopol AE 3945 LY, ke arah Desa Dempel, Kecamatan Geneng. Namun beberapa saat dalam pencarian waega, pelaku ditemukan dalam kondisi tak bernyawa di areal kebun jati.
“Iya saya tadi pas kerja lalu dipanggil tetangga. Saya langsung datang dan mencari pelaku. Motifnya asmara,” tutur Harsono, warga setempat, kepada jurnalis.
Aparat kepolisian Polsek Geneng yang berada di lokasi kejadian, mendapati jasad korban dalam posisi terlentang. Tak jauh dari jasad korban, polisi menemukan sebuah kaleng kecil yang diduga sebagai kemasan racun. Masih di lokasi itu, polisi juga menemukan satu unit sepeda motor yang diduga milik pelaku.
Polisi langsung mengevakuasi jasad pelaku, dikirim ke kamar jenazah RSUD dr. Suroto, Ngawi, guna dilakukan visum. Sementara, usai pembacokan tadi, warga setempat langsung melarikan korban yang tak sadarkan diri ke RS Widodo, Ngawi, guna penanganan medis.
“Sore tadi ada laporan perempuan dianiaya oleh seseorang dengan perkiraan motif asmara. Sesudahnya kuta dapat laporan lagi, pelakunya tewas bunuh diri,” jelas AKP Dhanang Prasmoko, Kapolsek Geneng, kepada jurnalis.
Polisi yang menangani perkara tersebut hingga kini masih mengumpulkan berbagai data. Termasuk memintai beberapa saksi mata yang mengetahui kejadiannya, sambil menunggu penjelasan korban yang kini masih dalam perawatan.
Guna melengkapi penyelidikan, polisi membawa beberapa barang bukti berupa sepeda motor, kaleng kemasan racun dan parang.
